The NSPCC are challenging schools and settings this October to the Kindness Challenge encouraging schools and nurseries to practice kindness in their communities.

Showing kindness is so important for children’s wellbeing, from the smallest of interactions help to support children. NSPCC Website, “Whether pupils play a game with a new friend or help someone with homework, it all helps create a better world.”

Evidence suggests that children in the North East of the UK struggle most with bullying and feelings of anxiety within school settings, especially during the start of the school year. Spreading the message of kindness helps to power Childline, making children aware of Childline and what Childline can do for children who are feeling worried or anxious, means that in times of need children always have someone just a phone call away.

The NSPCC website details the challenge for October, for schools and nurseries to get involved through promoting activities of kindness within their curriculums. To take part in the initiative there are free printable resources from the NSPCC website for settings to use. The Kindness Challenge worksheet can be used in settings or at home for children to mark off the nine kind acts they have completed throughout October.

This year, the NSPCC has partnered with Fonetti, the award-winning read-aloud app and school portal for the Kindness Challenge. When a school takes part in The Kindness Challenge, it will be able to submit pupils' kindness act worksheets for the chance to win a Fonetti school subscription – and have their story published in the NSPCC Kindness Challenge book on Fonetti's read-aloud app.

The aims for the initiative is for kindness to be implemented in education. Making schools a safer and kinder place for both children and staff.

The 50 Things Team says:

This initiative by NSPCC is an invitation for educational settings, families, and most importantly children to spread kindness. As we have just had World Mental Health day on Thursday the 10th of October, spreading kindness is really valuable with so many suffering from feelings of anxiety, depression and bullying.

Our 50 Things initiative promotes kindness, fun and laughter in all that we do. This October, we will be joining the NSPCC in sharing kindness both in our partner nursery St Edmund’s in Bradford and across our localities.
